Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy
My name is Jamara Redmond and I am a Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy. I like to create a safe space for my clients to feel comfortable and free to express their inner most feelings while in sessions without the fear of being judged. I have what some would say is an eclectic style of therapy with the goal of exploring what is right for the client, meeting them where they are at, and figuring out their goals together. I aspire to be a guide to my clients as they maneuver life. I want them to feel as though they don’t have to face all the obstacles and barriers thrown their way without help.
Born and raised in Richmond, VA I received my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012, and my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in couples therapy from Northcentral University in 2019. I spent a lot of time doing community based mental health work after undergrad before making the best decision to pursue my master’s degree. Before pursuing my counseling degree, I worked with children in the group home, lock down residential, school, community and home setting. I worked with adults in the day support, community and home setting. I have received trainings on mental health first aid, trauma informed care, crisis management and techniques on working with couples. I have experience working with children, adolescents, individual adults and couples with mood disorders, depression/anxiety, attachment and adjustment disorders, grief/loss, relationship issues, and church hurt.
I provide therapy from a solution focused perspective. I also use interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy, emotion focused therapy, and motivational interviewing to best serve my clients. I am always exploring new modalities and techniques to provide the best services and build great relationships with my clients. My goal is to have my clients leave sessions in a better place than they came in.
